Back Pain Relief

Back pain affects millions of people every year and is one of the most common reasons to miss work, disrupt an active lifestyle, and wreak havoc on your everyday routine.  However, when treated responsibly and efficiently by a chiropractor, back pain management doesn’t have to be complicated and is often reversible.

At Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab in Prairie Village, our staff works diligently with each individual patient to treat their back pain, as well as the underlying problem that’s causing their pain.

What Our Patients Are Saying About Their Back Pain

When patients come to see our chiropractic team, they will often describe their pain using words such as stiffness, sharp pain, shooting pain, and throbbing pain.  We understand the discomfort these words signify and will ask the questions to find out what the root of the problem is.

Patients can suffer from a number of different back pain issues:

  • Lower back pain
  • Tight muscles
  • Sciatica
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Pinched nerve
  • And more

We offer ways to relieve the pain and discomfort they’re experiencing.  But, the important next step is to find out why they’re suffering from the pain.

Again, there are a number of reasons for this:

  • Inflammation
  • Strained muscle or sprained ligament
  • Herniated discs
  • Nerve irritation
  • And more

Your back is home to your spinal column and is made up of bones, joints, ligaments, and muscles.  It’s working almost every moment of the day to provide support and balance, that’s a lot of pressure to put on one part of your body.  It’s not surprising that injuries occur, but it’s important to recognize that your back pain can be naturally and easily managed in almost every case.

Why We Experience Back Pain

Back pain comes in many forms- it can be chronic, it can be acute, it can be debilitating, or it can be a slight annoyance.

The truth is, it stems from too many places to count:

  • Bad posture
  • Working out
  • Daily routine
  • Job
  • Accident
  • And more

So, what do you do about it?  Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab believes strongly in our approach to chiropractic care.  We value natural, organic healing, free from surgery and medication whenever possible.  It’s always best to visit a chiropractor when you initially feel pain in your back.  If left untreated, back pain can worsen or spread to other areas of the body.

When part of our body isn’t working as it should, it forces other parts to make up for it, this adds unnatural stress to those body parts and because our back is made up of so many intricacies, it often bears the brunt in some form or another.

Our lower back is a rather weak area of the body in general.  When we add extra pressure to it we can experience muscle or joint pain, nerve pain, disc problems, and even arthritis.  Building a strong low back will play a big role in back stability overall and make chronic back pain a thing of the past.

Our staff at Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab relies on varying techniques to support the body’s natural state, including stretches and exercises that will benefit our patients throughout their health plan and give them access to ongoing and proactive methods to help secure their wellness goals.  Our hope is to make reinjury a non-issue.

How We Treat Back Pain

There’s no one way to treat back pain, the process will depend entirely on the patient’s problems, pains, and comfort level with the wellness plan we design for them.

The most common techniques we use at Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab include:

Chiropractic care: this is a non-surgical, drug-free treatment that involves spinal manipulation/adjustments used to release restricted joints of the spine and extremities.

Functional rehabilitation and exercise therapy: using rehabilitation techniques and targeted exercises for corrective reasons is a safe way to treat pain and help the body’s performance.

Dry needling: when muscles are tense, tight, or not functioning to the best of their ability, we’ll use acupuncture-like needles for treatment that will often give instant relief to the triggered muscle.

McKenzie Method (MDT): this is a series of tests that allow us to determine posture and body mobility, the results provide the information necessary to create a working wellness plan for the patient.

Muscle and soft tissue therapy: also called myofascial release, this technique offers relief to pain connected to muscles or nerves that move improperly.

Nerve flossing: flossing a nerve will alleviate pain, numbness, tingling, and weakness caused by neural tension.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS): a powerful technique that promotes proper activation and coordination of the neuromuscular system.

Our exams generally last around one hour and we will never allow our patients to feel insecure or uncomfortable with the plan we design specifically for them.  We want each patient to feel results as quickly as possible, always providing take-home guidance to ensure safe and speedy improvement.

Back Pain Alleviation and Visits

Because we treat the patient, not the problem, a back pain treatment plan is always individualized, catering to the patient’s comfort, issues, and goals.  We offer each patient an educated estimate on the amount of time involved to complete their wellness journey.

Every visit will offer more insight on recovery and when the patient sticks to their plan, results are a given.  The ultimate goal is to help ensure a balanced body and an empowered mind.  When the body isn’t functioning as it should, our mind can get off balance as well.  We want our patients to leave our office with the tools to take care of themselves naturally.

We will help our patients in any way we can to get the healthy lifestyle they deserve to have.  When they have health challenges to overcome we’re happy to offer techniques to minimize stress on both body and mind.

The less we see our patients, the happier we are.  This means that they’re getting their everyday life back, their pain is under control, and they feel that their body is working as it should.

“I was having moderate pain in my lower back that was occasionally less than moderate. Dr. Tom asked many questions and did some mobility tests, made a minor adjustment. My mobility increased instantly and I felt better right away. There was no “You need to come in every week for the rest of your life” conversations like some of my past experiences. I went back for a follow up after doing the recommended exercises, and I was done! I feel great! So if you are like me and only need the occasional “Feel Better” adjustment, Active Health is a great choice as well! You don’t have the pressure to keep going back if you don’t need it!” – Michael D., Prairie Village, KS
