Neck Pain Relief

Neck pain is one of the most common ailments we treat at Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab in Prairie Village.  It can come in all kinds of forms and develops due to all kinds of causes.  The good news is that neck pain is manageable and more often than not it can be dealt with quickly and easily.

Your neck is comprised of bones, ligaments, and muscles and they all work together to support your head.  When this is done properly, your head benefits from a full range of comfortable motion.  However, when done improperly, pain may arise due to the abnormality.

What Our Patients Are Saying About Their Neck Pain

Neck pain ranges from mild to severe and is often described to us by our patients as a stiff or tight neck, or it’s causing some form of pain, whether it’s a constant throbbing or a shooting pain when the head is turned.

Your neck’s range of motion is vital to good health and safety.  Think about when you’re driving a car for a moment.  If you can’t turn your head to make smart driving decisions, that’s a big problem.  Or if you work at a desk on a computer all day and you feel discomfort due to the angle of your neck, how are you supposed to get your work done?

Visiting your chiropractor isn’t just a smart move when you start experiencing neck pain, it’s necessary because your neck is a big part of your everyday lifestyle, even if you’re not a very active person.

Patients can suffer from a number of different neck pain issues:

  • Tight muscles in the neck radiating to shoulders
  • Neck stiffness
  • Loss of range of motion
  • Pinched nerve
  • And more

We have a variety of techniques that will treat neck pain successfully, usually offering immediate relief.  Within a few visits to our office, patients often experience little to no neck pain at all because we get to what’s causing the pain and remedy the issues.

Some of these issues include:

  • Inflammation
  • Strained muscle or sprained ligament
  • Herniated cervical discs
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Nerve irritation
  • Injury
  • And more

Commonly, neck pain isn’t serious and can be relieved swiftly with the correct treatment plan including take-home advice on stretching and exercising.  Using your neck muscles properly will allow them to provide the support the head needs and minimize added pressure.

Why We Experience Neck Pain

Like our back, we use our neck almost constantly, so almost everyone experiences some form of neck discomfort at some point, even if it’s very minimal.

Some of the most common reasons neck pain is triggered are:

  • Bad posture
  • Working out/exercise
  • Daily routine/overuse
  • Whiplash
  • Job
  • Accident
  • And more

How We Treat Neck Pain

Neck pain can often be alleviated through exercises and stretching and when done correctly and on schedule, results will usually be seen after only a couple of visits to our Prairie Village chiropractic office.

While some suffer much longer than necessary, upon visiting a chiropractor, in almost every case, neck pain can be 100% reversible.

We use several techniques to manage neck pain, including:

Chiropractic care: this is a manual technique that requires no medication or surgery and provides balancing benefits to the body through spinal adjustments.

Functional rehabilitation and exercise therapy: this is a noninvasive, safe way to provide pain management that contributes to the body’s performance through rehab and exercise plans.

Dry needling: using needles to treat tense or tight muscles will support functioning muscles and offers fast relief to the targeted area.

McKenzie Method (MDT): Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab is certified in MDT, a series of tests that allow us to determine posture and body mobility, the results provide the information necessary to create a working wellness plan for the patient.

Muscle and soft tissue therapy/myofascial release: this technique offers relief to pain connected to muscles or nerves that move improperly.

Nerve flossing: this gentle exercise stretches the affected nerve(s) in order to improve range of motion and minimize pain.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS): a powerful technique that promotes proper activation and coordination of the neuromuscular system.

Our patients are always involved with our treatment plan process.  We only use the techniques each patient feels comfortable with.  We also provide proper direction on exercises and stretches to be done regularly in order to keep reinjury from occurring.

Neck Pain Alleviation and Visits

It’s important to us that we find the source of the neck pain and not just treat the symptoms alone.  Active Health KC Chiropractic & Rehab uses tools to aid us in finding the source and eliminating that problem so the body works as it should.

The spine needs to be maintained and cared for or the body’s stable support system may become a problem.  With so many nerves running through the spine, when it’s not in a healthy state, pain or discomfort may ensue.  Many patients that we see tell us that they assumed their pain would go away after a while, and sometimes it does, but if the spine doesn’t receive the proper care, the pain will come back.

When you visit our Prairie Village chiropractic office for the first time, we will ask several questions about your medical history and your current problems and pains.  After we get an understanding of your experience, we will offer an exam that will give more insight into your particular issues and how we can help alleviate them.

If your neck pain is chronic, it may take a few months of spaced out visits to see your ultimate comfort goal through, but you will achieve it.  And it will be done organically without medications that can hide the pain and allow the problem to worsen.

Let us help you take control of your neck pain with our simple techniques, comforting exercises, and proactive stretching advice.  All of these things will help you find the balance your body needs to work as it should.

“I am thrilled with the treatment I received at Active Health KC. I’m a reluctant seeker of treatment and had spent several days suffering with intense pain and limited neck mobility before scheduling an appointment with Dr. Remsburg. He took a thoughtful and thorough approach to diagnosing the source of my shoulder and neck pain. He applied several modalities to treating my muscle issue, including manual manipulation, adjustments, teaching me exercises, and dry needling (which was miraculous). My improvement after my appointment was dramatic, and I awoke the next morning with fully restored mobility and almost no pain. He had me check in two days later for a short follow-up treatment session, after which my recovery was 100%. I will never hesitate in the future to seek treatment for my sports injuries. Active Health KC is fantastic.” – Laurie B., Prairie Village, KS
