Headaches and Face Pain

  • Cervicogenic headaches
  • Migraines
  • TMJ Disorder

Neck Pain

Neck pain stems from many different causes. When assessing the neck we assess all the spinal joint to ensure proper shared motion. We also look for any potential disc herniations, bulges, “slipped discs,” etc. Often those and other neck conditions are caused by improper movement patterns and/or imbalance in the pull of the muscles.
  • Cervical Disc Herniation
  • Cervical Disc Degeneration
  • Neck Sprain/Strain
  • Cervical Radiculopathy

Back Pain

This can be a cause of cervical disc herniations, muscle referred pain, improper shoulder stabilization or lack or/excessive mid-back mobility. Treatment is focused on treating the painful tissues and addressing the underlying cause.
  • Pain Between Shoulder Blades
  • Rib Pain
  • Upper Back Pain
  • Mid Back Pain
  • Chronic Muscle Tightness

Ankle and Foot Pain

This is another area that can range from very easy simple joint restrictions or strained muscle to disc herniations/sciatica problems. We will examine the whole lower quarter of the body to find the exact cause of your problem and subsequently give you the tools to resolve it going forward.
  • Ankle Impingement
  • Ankle Sprains/Strains
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Heel Spurs
  • Big Toe Pain
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Running Injuries
  • Chronic Ankle Strains

Leg Pain

Often this is the result of improper loading to the tissues that control the foot. This can be a result of increasing training too aggressively or lack of control of the lower limb. We will treat the soft tissue problems and adjust any joint restrictions. At the same time we will work on exercises to achieve proper loading or movement of the lower limb.
  • Shin Splints
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Compartment Syndrome
  • Sciatica
  • Running Injuries

Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is a joint designed for mobility. Because of that it often suffers from stability problems. Too often stability exercises are simply aimed at treating the rotator cuff, while ignoring underlying foundational problems including winging shoulder blades or core instability. When treating the shoulder we assess its stability, be make sure surrounding structures are allowing it to move properly, and we look for referral patterns that mimic shoulder pain and treat them.
  • Shoulder Impingement
  • Shoulder Bursitis
  • Tendonitis
  • Labrum Injury
  • Adhesive Capsulitis
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Bicipital Tendonitis
  • Throwing Injuries
  • Crossfit Injuries

Knee Pain

The knee is commonly the site of pain, but rarely the cause of the pain. Often the knee gets beat up from immobility in the ankle and/or poor control of the hip. Knees are big concerns for a lot of people, especially as they start to get older. We strive to give you the ability to keep those knees healthy and be able to run with the grandkids of run marathons in your 80s!
  • Runner’s Knee
  • Patellar Tendonitis
  • Mensicus Injury
  • ACL/PCL Strain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Illiotibial Band (ITB) Syndrome
  • MCL/LCL Injury

Lower Back Pain

The low back is one of the bigger weak points in the body. Often instability in the low back or hips, or lack of mobility in the hips cause excessive wear and tear on the low back. This can show up in the form of muscle/joint pain, arthritis, nerve irritation or disc issues. We will address the immediate pain generator and then when things have calmed down we will build towards a more stable low back.
  • Sciatica
  • Facet Syndrome
  • Failed Low Back Surgery
  • Stenosis
  • Lumbar Radiculopathy
  • Lumbar Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Disc Bulge
  • Nerve Injury

Elbow Pain

Often elbow pain is caused by over-dominance of one muscle group over the other. We look into normalizing the opposing muscle groups and teaching the tissues how to properly load. In addition to that, we will look from referred pain from other tissue in the body and address joint mechanics.
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Golfer’s Elbow
  • Lateral Epicondylitis
  • Medial Epicondylitis
  • Sports Injuries

Hand and Wrist Pain

This area is prone to pain when parts of the shoulder and arm are improperly stabilized. We will ensure the shoulder girdle is moving and stabilizing properly to allow the hand and wrist to move as they were intended to. If those areas are good we will tease out any trigger points, nerve issues or joint dysfunctions relating to the area.
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • De Quevian’s Syndrome
  • Carpal Tunnel

Hip and Pelvic Pain

Opposite of the shoulder, the hip is designed for stability and commonly runs into mobility problems. We look for joint restrictions and improper muscle balances when treating the hip. We also often find that minor disc bulges/herniations disguise themselves as hip pain. That being said we look at the whole lower half over the body for all contributing factors.
  • Hip impingement
  • Hip Flexor Strain
  • Hamstring Tendonitis
  • Piriformis Syndrome
  • Pregnancy Pain
  • SI joint Pain
  • Sciaticia
  • Sciatic Nerve Injry

"Dr. Cotter has actually fixed several of my issues without telling me to just "stop lifting." Back, wrist, shoulder--it's such a relief to know someone can get me back into my groove!"
Esmie T. from Mission, KS
"Jeff is the only person I trust when things get hairy. An endurance athlete and coach, I don't have time to constantly come in for maintenance or weekly adjustments. Remmy does a fantastic job equipping his patients with "homework", exercises that address the imbalance at hand...which not only negates the pain but curtails the actual imbalance thereby fixing the problem instead of masking the pain. I send all my athletes his way and have yet to hear anything negative."
Josh W. from Lenexa, KS
"I've had a variety of back and neck issues over the years and Dr. Remsburg is the only person who has been able to correct my ailments. He focuses on individual treatment for each patient and doesn't perform anything unnecessary. I've had a great experience and recommend Drs. Remsburg and Cotter wholeheartedly.
Marc R. from Mission Hills, KS
"I have been to many chiropractors in the past who said they could alleviate my ongoing neck pain. These guys were able to do just that and in the stated time frame. Now I just go from time to time for maintenance."
JD F. from Fairway, KS
"Active Health Solutions has been a live saver! The organization was recommended by my general practice physician and I have relied on their professional skill sets on two occasions to help eliminate muscle pain due to trigger-point (knots) associated with various sporting activities. The Doctors quickly identified and treated two "trigger-point" (knots) causing severe shoulder pain. The diagnosis consisted of Graston Therapy, dry needling, adjustments and a series of home exercises. The successful treatment eliminated the shoulder trigger-points and reduced my shoulder pain/discomfort by 80%. The Team is very personable, professional and cares about me as a person. I highly recommend Active Health Solutions."
Richard M. from Olathe, KS
"I have nothing but positive things to say about Tom (AKA Dr. Cotter) and Active Health Solutions. He is extremely knowledgable and personable. I never had to wait for an appointment and he was super flexible with scheduling, The chiropractic focus was on rehabilitation and wellness, and he even offering specific exercises to help me get back to training and reduce the risk of further injuries in the future. He's a runner and an overall athlete, so he just 'gets it' more than other chiropractors I've seen. I highly recommend Tom, and he will be my go-to guy if I have any further issues that need to be addressed in the future."
Rachel B. from Westwood, KS
"As a super active athlete, Dr. Cotter was able to meet my schedule demands and get me back performing when I needed it. He listened well as he was able to diagnose real issues. He was very flexible with time available and meeting me on short notice. I would highly recommend it."
Travis V. from Overland Park, KS
"Great experience. Came in for some chronic lower back pain and was given some simple stretches to do multiple times a day - which ended up being so effective; I was incredibly surprised. It was easy, non-invasive, and Jeff was really great to work with."
Jennifer H. From Shawnee, KS
"I was suffering from shoulder pain for about 7 months that kept me from participating in the sporting activities that I love. A friend recommended me to Dr. Tom Cotter at Active Health Solutions. Dr. Cotter was able to diagnose my issue after the first visit. He performed traditional chiropractic adjustments, ART, and dry needle acupuncture. After 3 visits my shoulder felt as good as new and I was able to go back to participating in the sports I love. What I appreciated most about Dr. Cotter was that on my first visit he said his goal was to get me to a point where his services were no longer necessary. I have been to quite a few chiropractors before and all of them were adamant that I keep up with regular adjustments, but really it just felt like they wanted my money. With Dr. Cotter, it seemed that he was genuinely interested in helping me solve my issue. I still see Dr. Cotter semi-regularly, whenever I feel my body is in need of some help, but he never pushes me to come in more than necessary. Thank you, Dr. Cotter and Active Health Solutions for all your help!"
Jessica R. from Roeland Park, KS
"I've seen Dr. Remsburg for several minor over-use injuries caused by running and each time he has been very professional, efficient, and helpful in getting me back on the road or trail. He is always on time and has a very special talent for diagnosing the issue and finding the most direct route back to a painless return to the sport. I've referred several people and they've all had great experiences as well. I feel so lucky to have found him and to have him in the neighborhood."
Tess B. from Leawood, KS
"I went to see Dr. Jeff for wrist and knee pain. He showed me different exercises and stretches to help with both. With time and regularly working on my exercises, I am happy to say I no longer have pain!"
Christina G. from Kansas City, KS
"I've been seeing Dr. Cotter for a couple of months now and feel much better. I was having a bizarre shooting pain in my neck and arm that was persistent and interfering with me being able to do my job. I visited Dr. Cotter and he gave me a quality adjustment in the office and also gave me some exercises to do on my own at home. I feel like he really listened to me and my issues and even followed up with me to see how I was feeling in the days following. If you want a reliable and welcoming chiropractic experience I definitely recommend Dr. Cotter at Active Health Solutions. Very LGBTQ+ friendly, which can be an issue for people seeking new health providers."
Abbey L. from Overland Park, KS
"Dr. Cotter is the best there is. I have pain in my neck, back and shoulders that flares up from overuse and I know that a couple visits at Active Health Solutions will get me back to doing the things I love. I have received dry needling, Graston, and chiropractic adjustments and am very happy with the results of all methods. Highly recommend!"
Lauren W. from Prairie Village, KS
"Dr. Cotter is by far the best chiropractor I have ever seen. There are no gimmicks in this office. He did a comprehensive physical exam and had me perform certain movements to see my baseline functionality. Then he taught me exercises to do daily to help with my complaints, in addition to giving me an adjustment. With his prescribed exercises and just 3-4 office visits, I am now low-back pain free! I still do the exercises occasionally when I have a twinge of pain and they are so helpful! What I love about this practice is they help you help yourself. It's refreshing. You don't just have to continue spending money without fixing your problem."
Rebecca S. from Kansas City, MO
"Would highly recommend Active Health Solutions. Dr. Cotter was able to find the root of my problem in one visit and had it treated with only a few more after that. He also provided me with at home exercises to aid in the recovery process. The office is clean, has a comfortable setting, and is very efficient with minimal to zero wait time for each of my visits."
Jennifer M. from Kansas City, MO
"I have a bulging disc and I saw 5 different people in 5 different offices before finding Dr. Remsburg. He was able to give me exercises that over a few weeks relieved almost all of my pain. Finding him saved me from surgery. I am so grateful for his thorough care and knowledge."
Rachel W. from Prairie Village, KS
"I messed up my rotator cuff and my regular chiropractor really could do nothing for me. I went to see Dr. Remsburg and in just a few weeks, I was able to use my arm again, without any pain! Once we got that one back in shape, we started working on my other shoulder; the one I called by "bad shoulder" and the one that got "out of whack" every so often. I thought it was just something I had to "deal with". Well, now they both work perfectly! I even had him work on my back and get me back to normal. Something my old chiropractor could not do. I can't say enough great things about my experience. I highly recommend these guys. If you have something that's "out of whack", they will fix it!"
Lorraine F. from Prairie Village, KS
"Being an endurance athlete I am always in need of some fine tuning and Jeff does a great job keeping me running and cycling! He listens and each session is specific to what is bothering me. My best example of his ability is from a couple years ago. I had wrecked my mountain bike and my calf was locked up. He did 2-3 minutes of ART at the start line of a half marathon and I went from limping to setting a PR!"
Bryan H. from Kansas City, MO
